Do you get that excited fresh project feeling when you first see a design that needs turning into a flawless website? We want to hear from you.

The Role

We’re on the lookout for a creative, detail-focused web developer, with expertise in front-end technologies to join our team at Red-Fern. Your primary role will be to successfully transform designs and prototypes into functioning, interactive, engaging, pixel-perfect websites or web applications that make a real impact for our clients.

As part of our delivery team, you’ll spend your time doing what you do best: coding and building. But you’ll also play a bigger role, owning projects through the entire development phase. From design handover to deployment, you’ll be the person making decisions, solving challenges, and ensuring the end product not only works but excels. You’ll collaborate with our designers, project managers, and clients to spot issues early, suggest smarter solutions, and keep delivery running smoothly.

You won’t be doing it alone. We’ve built a tight-knit development team that thrives on collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and pushing each other to do our best work. You’ll have the support you need from the team, daily stand-ups keep everyone aligned, and direct access to our Technical Director, Adam Wilson, to mentor and guide you.

While WordPress is our primary platform, we’re also a HubSpot Platinum Partner, which means HubSpot development is part of this role alongside other platforms when projects call for it (most recently Sanity). From marketing sites and landing pages to complex CMS-driven builds, you’ll work across a variety of projects that will challenge your skills and keep your work fresh and exciting.

If you’re someone who thrives on turning great designs into outstanding digital experiences, enjoys solving problems, and wants to be part of a forward-thinking agency where your work really matters, this is your chance to step into a role that will push you and reward you in equal measure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the development phase: from design handover to deployment, ensuring quality, functionality, and deadlines are met.
  • Translate designs into responsive, high-performance websites and digital experiences, primarily in WordPress, with projects also in HubSpot CMS and other platforms.
  • Scope and plan projects: break down designs into a scope of development, define architecture, estimate time, and manage your own workload effectively.
  • Build with precision: write clean, maintainable code and ensure pixel-perfect execution.
  • Collaborate with designers, project managers, and clients to report on project progress, clarify requirements, solve challenges, and recommend the best solutions based on your experience.
  • Deliver with confidence: manage QA, change requests, bug fixing, content population, CMS training, and smooth client handovers.
  • Contribute ideas: improve workflows, explore AI and new web tech, and share knowledge with the team.

Required Skills & Experience

  • While easily overlooked, you are a master of HTML and CSS (including Tailwind CSS). You can quickly create fluid interfaces that work on all screensizes, it’s second nature to you.
  • Proven experience delivering WordPress sites that match designs, with the ability to manage projects effectively within client budgets and timescales.
  • Have a strong portfolio demonstrating your development capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of PHP and WordPress hooks/filters.
  • Ability to self-manage tasks, priorities, and deadlines over multiple projects while collaborating effectively in a team.
  • Experience working independently from briefs, managing your own tasks and priorities.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Confident interpreting designs in Figma (assets, dimensions, variables, etc.).
  • An understanding of Git and version control.
  • General knowledge of UX, accessibility and usability best practices.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience in an agency setting.
  • Experience with WordPress Block Themes and custom block development.
  • Experience developing in HubSpot CMS using HubL templating.
  • Experience building React components.
  • Understanding of modern JavaScript ecosystems and meta-frameworks (e.g., Next.js, Astro, Nuxt).
  • Experience with AI editors (Cursor, Claude Code etc.) would be beneficial, along with an understanding of MCP, ACP etc and their place in an ever evolving AI landscape

Why join our team?

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Join a forward-thinking, values-driven agency where you’ll collaborate with an experienced passionate team, lead impactful projects, and help shape the future direction of the business.

  • Hybrid and flexible working: 2 days at our office and 3 at home, with additional flexibility to suit your lifestyle or unexpected appointments.

Applications
To apply, send your CV and a short introduction about why you’d be a great fit, plus some examples of your work, to [email protected].

1st Interview (Online):
An initial video interview where you’ll walk us through 2–3 examples of your work. We’re looking for how you delivered against the brief, solved problems, and achieved results. We don’t expect this to be in a final presentable format, or for you to spend a load of time creating a presentation, sharing your screen while viewing a website or jumping straight into a codebase is fine for us.

2nd interview (In-Person or Online)
A deeper dive, allowing you to further understand the role, Red-Fern, and the team you will be working with. If useful, we may also arrange additional sessions or visits with the wider team so we can get to know each other further.
