Design Lead

Describe an average working day for you at red fern

Before I dive into any work, I grab myself a coffee and read through my emails, check my tasks on Asana and make a plan for the day. I like to get all of my smaller tasks out of the way in the morning, after that I spend the rest of the day working on new designs and project deliverables

How does the red fern working environment differ to the other environments you’ ve worked in?

It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, which makes it a pleasure coming to work in a morning. We all share the same passion and strive to produce the best work possible. Everyone’s constantly bouncing ideas around and working together to come up with the best solution.

How did you end up in design/development?

I’ve always been good with computers, when I was 15 my Dad asked me to make him a website for his roofing business; at the time I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but I managed to build him a basic WordPress website. After that, I spent a lot of time building websites for friends and family. That’s when I knew web design was the career I wanted to pursue.

Which clients are you most excited to be working with?

So far all of my clients have been a pleasure to work with, however, I’ve particularly enjoyed working on Issue #1 Studios. They sell sculptures of comic book heroes, so that’s been interesting!

Which tools do you use day to day, out of interest?

Sketch for designing, Sublime Text for coding and Asana for keeping on top of my day -to-day tasks! Along with a few other things.

Are there any TV series or films that you recommend at any chance that you get?

Most definitely, since I discovered on-demand TV, I’ve been quite the binge-watcher of box sets. I’d say my top 3 are Sons of Anarchy, Power and Suits. I’d also recommend Peaky Blinders, Shooter and of course... Breaking Bad.

Where’s your favorite night out spot?

My nights out often involve going to see my favourite DJs at places like Warehouse Project and Albert Hall in Manchester. A more relaxed night out would be a few drinks at my local pub to enjoy a good laugh with my friends.

Any albums or songs on repeat at the moment?

Drumcode Radio is the only thing I listen to daily, I’m not sure I’d get through my gym session without it
